COMPARISON

8 and Under Program -vs- 8 Competitive 

8 Year Old Competitive 

  • Must tryout for the team 
  • Tryouts are usually in August of the preceding season (Example: Aug 22, 2021 tryouts for Spring 2022 season) 
  • There are 14 League games (7 home/7 away) played on weekdays 
    • Away games are played in the Denver metro area, home games in Arvada.
    • There is an end of season tournament with a minimum of 2 additional games 
  • Season starts the first week in April and the ends the last week of June 
  • Indoor practices can begin as early as December (Coach's discretion) 
  • Outdoor practices begin the first week in March 
  • Two outdoor practices per week for up to two hours each practice (Days and times are coach's discretion) 
  • Kids will pitch and follow league (RMJBL) rules for games 
  • Cost includes umpires, game and practice field rentals, indoor practice facility use, NJ hat, NJ jersey, team insurance, practice equipment, baseballs 
  • May play in weekend tournaments (coach’s discretion) 
  • If your child does not make the 8 competitive team, they will be placed in the 8 and Under program on either a instructional kid pitch or machine pitch majors team   

8 and Under Program 

  • Teams are formed by our 8 and Under director and/or based on requests 
  • Every child will be placed on a team 
  • Season starts early April and ends in Mid June 
  • Practices begin in late March or Early April (Coach’s discretion) 
  • One outdoor practice per week for 1-2 hours 
  • 8 games are played, all on Saturdays and all games are played at fields in Arvada 
  • End of the season tournament for Instructional Kid Pitch and Machine Pitch Majors teams 
  • Cost includes NJ hat and uniform top, field rentals, indoor practice facility use, practice and game equipment, baseballs 

Instructional Kid Pitch 

  • May not be older than 8 on April 30th (typically 1st and 2nd graders) 
  • Program is for kids that have played machine pitch and are ready for live pitching 
  • Each batter will be pitched up to 7 pitches by the opposing pitcher. 3 strikes constitute an out. After 4 balls the coach for the batting team will pitch the remaining pitches until the player strikes out, or puts the ball in play. 
  • Offense will bat 9 batters or 3 outs per inning; whichever comes first 
  • All teams will field the normal 9 positions 

Machine Pitch Majors 

  • May not be older than 8 on April 30th (typically 1st and 2nd graders) 
  • Each batter will be pitched up to 7 pitches by the machine. 3 strikes constitute an out. A batter cannot be awarded a walk. If a batter has two strikes, he can keep fouling off balls until he strikes out or puts the ball in play. After 6 pitches, the batter is assumed to have two strikes regardless of the pitch sequence. 
  • Offense will bat 9 batters or 3 outs per inning; whichever comes first 
  • All teams will field the normal 9 positions
