NJJBA Adds Security to the Web Site

What Did We Do?

The need for Internet communication to be secure and confidential is a growing concern for almost everyone and every organization. NJJBA is serious about information security. Therefore, we have taken steps to protect our web site against threats to the confidentiality of information, integrity of information and processes, and availability of information and services in order to build trust and confidence with our membership.

On January 3, 2008, NJJBA purchased an SSL Certificate (pronounced as separate letters; short for Secure Sockets Layer). An SSL Certificate is a cryptographic protocol that provides secure communications on the Internet for such things as web browsing, e-mail, Internet faxing, instant messaging and other data transfers.

How Do I Know the Web Site Is Secure?

There are several ways to determine whether or not the web site or a web page is secure. For starters, the web address (or URL) will start with the "https" protocol rather than the normal http.

NJJBA also has the Comodo TrustLogo on every page of the web site. What is TrustLogo™? TrustLogo is a way to provide trust and confidence to our web site visitors. The TrustLogo graphic employs unique technology to allow web site visitors to quickly validate our right to display a TrustLogo and to easily view our credentials, as verified by a trusted third party. By simply pointing your cursor at our TrustLogo, a real-time request for validation of our identity is made to the IdAuthority (a central repository of web site identities and the credentials of the entities behind the web site). Our credentials are returned in a dynamically generated 'certificate', thereby ensuring you have all the critical details at hand to do business with NJJBA.

Lastly, secure web pages always display the image of a small lock somewhere on the page (different browsers display the lock in different places). Click on the lock and a security report will be displayed with the option to view our security certificate.

What Does This Mean to You?

Our SSL Certificate, and the security that comes with it, should provide trust, confidence and peace of mind that when you exchange information with NJJBA (registration forms, feedback forms, coach applications, etc.) that information is encrypted and secure.

Please note that the NJJBA certificate has been set up for https://njjba.org, NOT https://www.njjba.org. If our certificate is accessed through https://www.njjba.org, it will give a security warning saying the name does not match the name on the certificate. The certificate will still secure the data however. Please change your Favorites and/or saved links to http://njjba.org.

If you have questions or concerns about the security of your web experience with NJJBA please contact us (Email the Web Administrators).
